By the sea
This project was designed around the Lord of the rings and done by weaving in other natural elements to tie into the landscape. The fountain was crafted out of different stone and glass mosaic pieces with some ceramic for the trees. All surfaces were waterproofed and then floated with mortar to the proper dimensions to receive the mosaics.
The Sundial was roughly a 9 foot diameter circle and was also floated with the crown in the middle to drain the water with the outside perimeter to be level. It consists of mainly stone with glass inserts and red glass for the center. The mosaics were created and constructed by: Karen Thomson of Archetile. The photo’s were done by: Rebecca Ford
Fuente azul
This double sided fountain was floated with mortar to the mosaic layout and then waterproofed. The beautiful mosaic tiles were installed on all surfaces and the center glass sphere was installed after. The water is intended to flow over both sides of the main wall and cascade down the front and back into the basins. The fountain colors tie together with the swimming pool which is predominantly blue with gold accents. The mosaics were created and constructed by: Karen Thomson of Archetile.
McEvoy ranch
This amazing location in Petaluma, California was the ideal place to install this incredibly involved mosaic piece. The mosaic was designed and built by Karen Thompson of Archetile using Spanish tile and Slate with river stones inside the tiles. The piece is named “cracked ice” and was based on the ancient Asian and European style of dry mortar set.

Fountain in the valley
This fountain was a collaborative design developed by a team of artists and designers. From it's inception every small detail was combed through to achieve absolute success and true lasting beauty. All surfaces needed to be floated to the exact dimension to accommodate the tile layout. All tile setting and mosaic installation were discussed daily to achieve the desired look. Only 15 percent of the fountain was done from an original mold. The rest of the tile is all custom sized and shaped. The mosaics were created and constructed by: Karen Thomson of Archetile.
